Governors Island Addition

Gilford, NH

This 3-bay garage/apartment addition added expansive living space to the second floor of this Governor’s Island vacation home on Lake Winnipesaukee. One of the owner’s main concerns was that the addition “looked like it was always there and part of the original house” and they are completely happy with the finished result.

With the original directive always in mind during the construction process, a new family room, large bathroom, corridor and stairs were added above the garage bays and into the 2nd-floor living space. Extensive excavating, panelized stonework and landscaping accommodate the steep hillside into which it was built. Paved with pervious asphalt, the driveway is partially heated. The addition seamlessly attaches to the main house with a covered breezeway and porch which feature multiple skylights to add natural light.
